How it’s Made

Staying true to its mid-century inspiration, Panamerican Travelogue utilizes traditional animation techniques such as acetate cel artistry and gouache background painting.

Background Gouache Painting

The background is painted in layers of gouache on paper. Gouache is used because of its opacity and vibrant palette.

Sketching

The subject is sketched on a plain piece of paper, which will then be traced and painted onto an acetate cel.

Inking on Acetate Cel

The front of the cel is traced in ink, providing an outline for the cel art.

Cel Painting

The cel is flipped over and painted with vinyl acrylic animation paint.
